Bird's Nest Cactus
A Fuzzy, Woven Wonder
The Bird's Nest Cactus (Mammillaria decipiens ssp. camptotricha, often listed simply as M. camptotricha) is a charming and highly sought-after species of Pincushion Cactus. It earns its descriptive common name from its unique, low-growing, clumping habit, which forms a dense, interwoven mass that resembles a fuzzy bird's nest.
Distinctive Spines: Unlike harsh, sharp cacti, the spines on the Bird's Nest Cactus are long, thin, soft, and flexible. They are often yellowish-white or pale gold with slightly hooked, darker tips, and they curve and twist over the stem segments, creating a captivating, chaotic yet beautiful texture.
Clumping Form: This cactus starts as a single small globe but quickly produces offsets from the base, developing into a beautiful, sprawling cushion or mound. Its size and shape make it an exceptional specimen for shallow planters, bonsai dishes, or rock garden accents.
Classic Mammillaria Blooms: In late winter or early spring, the plant rewards you with a crown of small, funnel-shaped creamy white or pale yellow flowers that emerge from the axils (the spaces between the tubercles) around the top of the globe.
All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Care & Cultivation
The Bird's Nest Cactus is very forgiving and thrives with the typical low-maintenance care required by most desert cacti.
Light Needs: Prefers Full Sun to Bright, Intense Light. Plenty of sunlight is necessary to maintain the dense, tight form and bright color of the spines.
Water Needs: Low. Use the "soak and dry" method. Water deeply, then allow the soil to become completely dry before watering again. Keep almost entirely dry during the winter dormancy period.
Soil Needs: Must be planted in a highly porous, fast-draining cactus and succulent mix to prevent moisture retention and root rot.
Hardiness: Not frost-hardy
