              Blue Chalk Sticks
Senecio mandraliscae - Blue Chalksticks
Botanical Name: Senecio mandraliscae (syn. Curio talinoides var. mandraliscae) Common Names: Blue Chalksticks, Blue Fingers, Blue Pickle
Product Description:
Introduce a splash of stunning, architectural blue to your garden or container collection with the Blue Chalksticks (Senecio mandraliscae). This highly popular, easy-care succulent is prized for its unique, upright, finger-like foliage that creates a dramatic contrast against traditional green plants.
The fleshy, cylindrical leaves are coated in a fine, powdery blue-grey wax known as farina—a natural sunscreen that gives the plant its striking, chalky color. When planted as a groundcover, the stems root as they sprawl, quickly forming a dense, silvery-blue mat that's excellent for suppressing weeds, stabilizing slopes, or creating a low border.
Reaching up to 1–2 feet in height and spreading 2–3 feet wide, the Blue Chalksticks offers year-round, low-maintenance color. In the summer months, mature plants may produce small, inconspicuous white flowers on stalks just above the foliage.
All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Why You'll Love It:
- Striking Blue Color: The powdery blue-grey foliage provides an exceptional color contrast in any succulent arrangement or landscape.
- Architectural Form: The upward-curving, pencil-like leaves add unique texture and dimension.
- Drought Tolerant: Highly waterwise and naturally resistant to heat and dry conditions—ideal for xeriscaping and low-water gardens.
- Versatile Use: Excellent as a groundcover, edging plant, rock garden filler, or as a "filler" and "spiller" component in mixed container gardens.
Care Requirements:
- Light: Thrives in full sun (which intensifies the blue color) to bright, partial shade.
- Water: Extremely drought-tolerant. Use the "soak and dry" method, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
- Soil: Requires a very well-draining soil mix (cactus/succulent blend with added grit or pumice is best).
- Hardiness: Cold-tender; protect from frost or grow in containers to bring indoors during winter.
