Fasciated Haworthia

$10.00

A Miniature Striated Masterpiece

The Haworthiopsis fasciata (formerly Haworthia fasciata), widely known as the Zebra Plant or Fasciated Haworthia, is a beloved clustering succulent native to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Often confused with its cousin Haworthiopsis attenuata, the true fasciata is a rare gem in cultivation, celebrated for its sleek, smooth inner leaf surfaces and bold external markings.

  • Pearly "Zebra" Striping: The defining feature of this plant is the striking, horizontal bands of raised, white tubercular ridges (warts) on the undersides of the leaves. These bold white stripes against the dark backdrop give the plant its distinct, zebra-like appearance.

  • Sleek Structural Rosettes: It grows in a compact, stemless rosette of thick, incurved, lance-shaped leaves. Unlike H. attenuata, the true H. fasciata features leaves that are completely smooth on the inside surface, giving the rosette an exceptionally clean, architectural interior.

  • Generous Clumping Habit: This miniature succulent offsets freely from the base, gradually producing a dense, beautiful colony of small rosettes that spill over the edges of shallow planters.

  • Slender Summer Blooms: During the summer months, it sends up a tall, remarkably delicate inflorescence. Small, tubular, white-and-green striped flowers dangle from a slender wire-like stem, creating a whimsical contrast to the rigid rosette below.

All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Care and Growing

The Zebra Haworthia is incredibly resilient and adaptable, making it one of the absolute best succulents for indoor environments where light is less than optimal for desert cacti.

  • Light Needs: Prefers Bright, Indirect Light to Partial Shade. It thrives on windowsills with eastern or western exposure. Unlike many succulents, direct, harsh afternoon sun can scorch its leaves or turn them a stressed reddish-brown, so filtered light is ideal.

  • Water Needs: Low. Follow a strict "soak and dry" routine. Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry, and ease back significantly during the winter months when the plant enters a semi-dormant state. It is highly drought-tolerant and forgiving of a missed watering.

  • Soil Needs: Requires Porous, Well-Draining Mix. A standard succulent soil amended with 50% grit, pumice, or perlite ensures excellent aeration around the roots and prevents moisture from trapped at the base.

  • Temperature & Hardiness: Best kept in temperatures above 50°F (10°C). It is not frost-hardy and should be kept indoors as a houseplant in most climates, though it loves spending summers outdoors in a shaded, well-ventilated spot.

Add the timeless, graphic charm of the Zebra Haworthia to your collection—the perfect, low-maintenance living sculpture for any small space!
