Dudleya greenei

Key Features:

  • Striking Rosette Form: Dudleya greenei forms a dense, symmetrical rosette of fleshy, often pale green to grayish-blue leaves. These leaves can be narrow and elongated, sometimes with a subtle powdery (farina) coating, giving them a frosted appearance.

  • Architectural Presence: As it matures, Greene's Liveforever can develop a clumping habit, forming multiple rosettes that create a beautiful, mounding display. Its robust nature makes it a sculptural focal point.

  • Seasonal Charm: Like many Dudleyas, this plant may enter a period of summer dormancy, during which its leaves might shrivel slightly, only to plump up and revive with cooler temperatures and the return of its active growing season. This natural cycle adds to its intrigue.

  • Delicate Blooms: In spring or early summer, Dudleya greenei sends up slender flower stalks topped with charming yellow to reddish-tinged blooms, providing a lovely contrast to its cool-toned foliage.

  • Drought-Tolerant & Resilient: Renowned for its ability to thrive in harsh, dry conditions, Greene's Liveforever is incredibly drought-tolerant and remarkably low-maintenance once established. Its "liveforever" moniker is well-earned!

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade, especially in hotter inland climates. Coastal areas can provide full sun exposure.

  • Soil: Requires extremely well-draining soil, such as a gritty succulent or cactus mix. Excellent drainage is crucial to prevent rot.

  • Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce or withhold water during its summer dormancy to mimic its natural habitat.

  • Hardiness: Not frost-hardy. Protect from temperatures below 40°F (4°C). If you're in an area prone to frost, consider growing it in a container that can be moved indoors. Avoid getting water on the rosette, especially the farina, as it can cause marks.

Add a piece of California's coastal beauty to your home or garden with the captivating Greene's Liveforever (Dudleya greenei). Its unique form and enduring spirit will be a treasured addition to your plant collection.
