Distinctive Appearance

Unlike common rosettes, this succulent offers a fascinating, multi-dimensional look:

  • Stacked Foliage: The star of the show is its thick, fleshy leaves. They are distinctly triangular or three-angled, and grow in opposing, tightly packed pairs that stack up the stem like little jade blocks.

  • Cool-Toned Color: The leaves sport a beautiful, smooth blue-green or gray-green hue, which intensifies with bright light.

  • Trailing Habit: As the plant matures, it forms dense, low-spreading clumps, with stems that can gracefully trail over the edge of a pot or hanging basket, making it an excellent accent plant.

  • Watering: Like its arid-climate cousins, the Corpuscularia lehmannii is extremely drought-tolerant.9 Use the "soak and dry" method: wait until the leaves look slightly wrinkled or the soil is completely dry before watering thoroughly.10

  • Soil & Drainage: Excellent drainage is essential to prevent root rot.11 Plant in a coarse, gritty succulent or cactus mix.

  • Hardiness: While named 'Ice Plant,' it is not frost-hardy and should be protected from freezing temperatures (keep above 12$25^\circ\text{F}$ or 13$-4^\circ\text{C}$).14
