Kranz' Crown
A Crown of Golden Sunlight
The Rebutia marsonieri, specifically the "Krainz' Crown" variety, is a prized gem from the high-altitude regions of northern Argentina. This charming, small-scale cactus is a favorite among collectors because it prioritizes flowers above all else, often hiding its entire body under a "crown" of blossoms during the spring.
Prolific Golden Blooms: This variety is celebrated for its vibrant, buttercup-yellow to deep golden flowers. Unlike many cacti that bloom from the top, Rebutia produces flowers from the base or lower sides of the plant, creating a stunning ring of color that looks like a literal crown resting on the soil.
Petite and Clumping: It remains naturally small, typically growing as a flattened globe only 1.5 to 2 inches wide. Over time, it generously "pups" to form dense, low-growing cushions, making it an excellent choice for decorative bowls or small "fairy" gardens.
Soft, Golden Spination: The body is covered in short, soft, golden-white spines that give the plant a slightly fuzzy, shimmering appearance. These spines are relatively gentle to the touch compared to larger desert cacti, making it a "friendly" addition to indoor collections.
Mountain Resilience: Because it originates from high altitudes, it has a rugged constitution. It is adapted to handle intense sun and cool nights, which often results in more compact growth and more intense flowering colors.
All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Care and Growing
Krainz' Crown is one of the most rewarding cacti for beginners because it blooms at a very young age and is highly adaptable to container life.
Light Needs: Prefers Bright, Indirect Light to Partial Sun. While it loves the sun, intense afternoon heat in lower altitudes can be a bit much; morning sun is ideal. Plenty of light is the key to ensuring it produces its signature ring of flowers.
Water Needs: Low to Moderate. During the growing season (spring through autumn), water when the soil is dry to the touch. Be sure to reduce watering in the winter to allow the plant a cool, dry rest period, which is essential for bud formation.
Soil Needs: Requires Extremely Well-Draining Soil. A gritty mix with plenty of pumice or perlite is vital. It prefers a slightly more acidic environment than some other cacti, which can be achieved with a quality peat or coco-coir based cactus mix.
Temperature & Hardiness: This is a cool-hardy cactus! It can tolerate temperatures down to 20°F (-7°C) if kept dry. In fact, a "chilly" winter (around 40-50°F) actually helps the plant produce more flowers the following spring.
Add the cheerful, sun-drenched beauty of Krainz' Crown to your collection and enjoy one of the most spectacular floral shows in the cactus kingdom!
