Narrow Leafed Haworthia

$10.00

A Graceful and Refined Silhouette

The Haworthia angustifolia (often classified as Haworthiopsis angustifolia), commonly known as the Narrow-Leafed Haworthia, is a distinctive and elegant species native to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Standing out from its more aggressively rigid, heavily "warted" relatives, angustifolia is celebrated for its soft, fluid geometry and delicate, fine-textured rosettes.

  • Slender, Lance-Shaped Foliage: True to its specific epithet angustifolia (meaning "narrow-leafed"), this plant forms rosettes of long, thin, upward-pointing leaves. The leaves are sharply pointed, slightly incurved, and lack the heavy white bumps found on other species, giving it a sleek and grassy appearance.

  • Muted, Earthy Palette: The coloration of this species is beautifully understated. It ranges from a pale dull-green to a dark, olive-brown-green. When grown in bright light, the leaf tips often flush with attractive, warm reddish or purplish stress tones.

  • Intricate Leaf Margins: While the faces of the leaves are relatively smooth, closer inspection reveals tiny, delicate serrations or minute teeth along the edges and the back keel of each leaf, adding a subtle texture to its minimalist profile.

  • Prolific Offsetter: This species is a enthusiastic clumper. Over time, it sends out numerous subterranean stolons or offsets from the base, eventually filling out its container to form a dense, architectural mat of overlapping rosettes.

All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Care and Growing

Like most Haworthias, the Narrow-Leafed Haworthia is a resilient survivor that is highly adapted to lower-light environments, making it an exceptional candidate for indoor growing.

  • Light Needs: Prefers Bright, Indirect Light to Gentle Morning Sun. It is highly sensitive to intense, direct afternoon sunlight, which can easily scorch the thin foliage or cause the plant to turn an overly stressed, stagnant brown.

  • Water Needs: Low. Utilize the classic "soak and dry" method. Water the substrate thoroughly, then allow it to dry out completely before the next watering. Reduce watering to a bare minimum during the winter rest period.

  • Soil Needs: Requires Porous, Highly Gritty Soil. A specialized mix consisting of 60-70% inorganic materials—such as pumice, perlite, or fine lava rock—combined with standard succulent soil ensures excellent root aeration and prevents moisture retention.

  • Temperature & Hardiness: Best kept in temperatures above 50°F (10°C). It is not frost-tolerant and should be kept indoors during the colder months, though it thrives outdoors in a sheltered, shaded location during mild spring and summer weather.

Add the elegant, flowing lines of the Narrow-Leafed Haworthia to your collection—a perfect contrasting texture to pair alongside chunkier succulents and spiny desert cacti!
