Pickle Plant 'Senecio stapeliiformis'
A Whimsical and Quirky Succulent
The Pickle Plant (Curio stapeliiformis, formerly Senecio stapeliiformis) is one of the most distinctive and whimsical succulents available. Named for its resemblance to tiny, gherkin-like pickles, this unique columnar species from South Africa is a guaranteed conversation starter.
Pickle-Like Stems: The plant grows pencil-thick, cylindrical stems that initially grow upright but eventually trail or sprawl. The stems are a soft green, beautifully marked with striking burgundy or dark purple longitudinal stripes—enhancing its resemblance to a pickle.
Fuss-Free Sprawling: As a compact, low-growing succulent, the Pickle Plant slowly forms dense clumps, making it an excellent spiller for container gardens or a unique feature in a shallow bonsai pot.
Vibrant Blooms: During the summer and fall, mature plants produce striking, solitary bright red or orange-red, brush-like flowers that emerge from the tips of the stems, providing a stunning contrast to the cool-toned foliage.
All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Simple Care for a Unique Plant
The Pickle Plant is highly resilient and thrives on minimal attention, making it an ideal choice for both novice and experienced succulent growers.
Light Needs: Prefers Bright, Indirect Light to Full Sun. Strong sunlight encourages the best stem coloring and compact growth.
Water Needs: Very Low. It is highly drought-tolerant. Use the "soak and dry" method, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Be cautious of overwatering, especially in winter.
Soil Needs: Requires a very Porous, Well-Draining Soil mix, such as a gritty cactus/succulent blend. A pot with a drainage hole is essential.
Maintenance: Easily propagated by stem cuttings, allowing you to quickly fill a container or share its quirky charm with friends!
Add the playfully striped Pickle Plant to your collection and enjoy its unique texture and easy-going nature!
