The Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus (Echinocereus rigidissimus rubrispinus) is one of the most vibrantly colored and sought-after cacti available. This miniature columnar cactus is a true living jewel, captivating collectors with its dense, eye-popping spination.

The body of the cactus is almost completely obscured by layers of perfectly uniform, pectinate (comb-like) spines that lie flat against the stem. New growth at the crown explodes in brilliant ruby-red or magenta spines, creating a stunning, colorful banding effect as the cactus slowly grows and the older spines fade to pink and white. The name rubrispinus literally means "red-spined," setting this variety apart with its exceptionally deep, rich color that lasts.

During late spring to early summer, this gorgeous specimen rewards diligent care with incredibly showy, large deep rose-pink to magenta flowers with striking white centers, forming a colorful crown atop the stem.

Naturally solitary and slow-growing, the Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus makes an exquisite display plant for windowsills, decorative pots, or a carefully curated rock garden.
