Rose Pincushion Cactus
A Spectacular Crown of Blooms
The Mammillaria zeilmanniana, commonly known as the Rose Pincushion Cactus, is one of the most popular and rewarding Mammillaria species for both novice and expert collectors. Hailing from the Querétaro region of Mexico, this plant is celebrated for its dense texture, ease of clumping, and stunning flowering display.
Soft, Dense Texture: The small, cylindrical stems are densely covered in short, rigid spines, typically colored silvery-white or pale gold. The spines are numerous and curved, creating a compact, soft-looking texture that hides the green body beneath.
Prolific Clumper: This cactus grows vigorously, producing numerous offsets (pups) from the base. It quickly forms attractive, dense mounds or clusters that can spill gracefully over the edges of a container.
The Magenta Ring: Its most spectacular feature is its ability to produce a continuous, breathtaking ring of deep rose-pink to vibrant magenta flowers that fully encircle the apex of the stem in spring and often again in summer. This magnificent floral crown provides a stunning contrast to the pale spination.
Manageable Size: Remaining relatively small and compact, the Rose Pincushion Cactus is perfect for sunny windowsills, terrariums, or miniature desert landscapes.
All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Care and Placement
The Mammillaria zeilmanniana is a resilient and low-maintenance plant, making it a reliable source of vibrant color.
Light Needs: Thrives in Full Sun to Bright, Intense Light. Ample light is crucial for dense spination and heavy, consistent flowering.
Water Needs: Low. Water deeply only when the soil has dried out completely. As a clumping species, ensure the soil drains quickly to prevent moisture retention in the center of the cluster. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil Needs: Must be planted in a highly porous, fast-draining cactus mix (amended with grit or pumice).
