Variegated Bear's Paw
The Collector's Fuzzy Paw
The Cotyledon ladismithiensis variegata, commonly known as the Variegated Bear's Paw or Variegated Cub's Paw, is a rare and highly sought-after form of the beloved fuzzy succulent. Its striking combination of soft texture and multi-colored foliage makes it an irresistible addition to any collection.
Distinctive Foliage: Its leaves are thick, wedge-shaped, and covered in a soft, silvery-white velvety coat (tomentose), giving the plant its signature fuzzy texture.
Unique Variegation: The typical blue-green foliage is beautifully disrupted by creamy white or pale yellow patches and stripes. This variegation adds a luminous, colorful dimension to the plant.
The 'Paw' Shape: Each leaf tip features two to three prominent, reddish-brown teeth or 'claws' that truly make the leaves resemble a miniature bear's paw. When grown in bright light, these tips often stress to a brilliant rosy pink or deep red.
Growth Habit: This is a low-growing, shrubby succulent that branches out to form dense mats or clumps, making it perfect for smaller containers or windowsill displays.
All potted plants are local pickup only. Shipped plants will be bare root (no pot or soil).

Care and Growing
Though a collector's item, the Variegated Bear's Paw is relatively easy to care for, provided its basic needs for light and drainage are met. It is native to South Africa and is a winter-dormant plant.
Light Needs: Prefers Bright, Indirect Sunlight or Filtered Sun. Direct morning sun is ideal, but protect it from harsh, scorching afternoon sun, which can burn the variegated patches. Bright light is essential to maintain its compact shape and vibrant colors.
Water Needs: Very Low. As with most succulents, it is extremely drought-tolerant. Use the 'soak and dry' method, watering deeply only when the soil is completely dry. Water sparingly or not at all during its winter dormancy period.
Soil Needs: Requires a very Porous, Well-Draining Soil mix, such as a specialty cactus or succulent blend. Excellent drainage is critical to prevent root and stem rot.
Temperature & Hardiness: Not Frost Hardy (Hardy to approximately 30°F or Zone 10). If temperatures drop below freezing, it must be brought indoors to a bright location.
